The government will shift Paya Lebar Air Base to Changi East in order to free up 800ha of land for homes, parks, offices and factories, said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong during Sunday’s National Day Rally.
Aside from providing a land area larger than Bishan or Ang Mo Kio, the relocation of the air base will remove existing height restrictions around the vicinity, allowing the authorities to develop new and exciting plans for eastern Singapore.
SINGAPORE: The government has introduced a slew of measures aimed at making the purchase of homes here more affordable.
To help middle-income families afford their first home, the Special CPF Housing Grant of up to S$20,000 will be extended to middle-income households with a combined income of up to S$6,500.
That is up from the current household income ceiling of S$2,250.
This Special CPF Housing Grant scheme will also be extended to four-room flats in non-mature estates. Previously, the grant was only for two- and three-room flats.

The first six stations of the $20.7-billion Downtown Line in Singapore are slated to open on 22 December, local media reported on Monday.
Following the grand opening of Marina Bay Financial Centre (MBFC) on Wednesday, the Marina Bay area is set to get more homes, offices and shops in the next few years, noted analysts. Several land parcels in the area have also not been developed yet.
MBFC has also established a new standard for green buildings and boosted the supply of prime office space in the CBD by three million sq ft. With its high-end apartments and restaurants, the integrated development also provides a unique environment for working, living and leisure, said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
