SINGAPORE: Construction of the new Airbus Asia Training Centre (AATC) in Singapore is now underway, following the completion of initial ground-breaking works. The centre, a joint venture between Airbus and Singapore Airlines (SIA), is due to open in the first quarter of 2016, said both companies in a joint media release on Wednesday (Apr 29).
The 9,250 square metre facility, located at Seletar Aerospace Park, will be the fourth Airbus flight training centre in its global network, joining those in Toulouse, Miami and Beijing. It will offer type rating and recurrent training courses for all in-production Airbus types.
When fully operational, AATC will feature eight full flight simulators, including four A350 XWBs simulators, a A380 simulator, a A330 simulator and two A320s simulators. The centre will also offer extensive classroom facilities and will be able to offer courses for more than 10,000 trainees per year, said SIA and Airbus.
The two companies added that prior to the opening of the new centre, AATC currently offers courses out of temporary facilities at the SIA Training Centre near Changi Airport, which operates a A380 and two A330 simulators.
Instructors for AATC will initially be drawn from both Airbus and Singapore Airlines, with additional recruitment set to take place in the coming months. In total, the centre expects to provide employment for some 50 instructors and 25 support staff.
"With demand for air travel forecast to continue growing strongly in the Asia-Pacific region, AATC will be a centre of excellence that will help the industry keep pace with training requirements, while also enhancing Singapore's position as a leading aviation hub,” said Singapore Airlines Senior Vice President Flight Operations, Captain Gerard Yeap.
In addition to its flight crew training centres in Toulouse, Miami and Beijing, Airbus has engineering and maintenance training centres in Hamburg and Bangalore. The company also has agreements with third party service providers to offer Airbus training courses at their facilities.
SIA and Airbus stated that AATC will welcome trainees from airlines based across the Asia-Pacific region. All the courses offered by AATC are identical to those at the manufacturer’s flight training centres in Toulouse, Miami and Beijing, they added.
SINGAPORE: China-based integrated aerospace company, HAITE Group, officially opened its Aviation Safety and Training centre in Singapore on Tuesday (21th April 2015)
The HAITE Aviation Training Singapore facility will serve as a training hub for pilots and crew in the aviation industry.
Valued at S$95.3 million, the six-storey building is equipped with the latest training devices.
HAITE Singapore expects to expand its facility progressively over the next five years to its full seven-bay capacity, which would enable it to provide 50,000 hours of training per year.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Senior Minister of State for Finance and Transport Josephine Teo said HAITE's partnerships with the region's fast-growing airlines will help strengthen Singapore's position as an aviation training hub.
She said: "HAITE's establishment of its Aviation Training Centre in Singapore will meet a market need in the regional aerospace sector, and it is a growing need. Air traffic in this region is expected to grow and we need quality pilots to fly these aircraft safely."
According to the International Air Transport Association, Asia Pacific airlines now account for about a third of global air passenger traffic. This is expected to exceed 40 per cent within 20 years, and industry watchers project that 216,000 new pilots will be needed to meet the growing demand.
The Singapore facility will be the group's international headquarters and also the first major investment by a Chinese aerospace company in Singapore.
It expects to attract a total of S$55 million in direct and indirect revenues per annum for the Singapore economy over the next five years.
HAITE Singapore also revealed a new partnership with Baltic Aviation Academy (BAA), where both parties will collaborate to offer courses to commercial airlines in Southeast Asia.
Singapore’s aerospace industry has grown at an average rate of 10 per cent in the last two decades and achieved a record output of S$8.7 billion in 2012, according to data from the Economic Development Board.
