Besides being the best place to witness fireworks, Marina Bay ignites a magic spark of its own.

During the 1970s and 1980s, the 360 hectare area of Marina Bay was reclaimed in anticipation of the need to grow the city centre in the future, embodying a successful example of Singapores long term planning.

Located at the southern tip of Singapore, Marina Bay seamlessly extends into Singapore's Central Business District (CBD) and supports the countrys business and financial growth. It is planned as a vibrant, mixed-use district, based on sustainable development strategies which optimises access for residents, workers and visitors to public transport.

SINGAPORE: An additional station will be built between Yishun and Sembawang on the North-South Line, and it will be known as Canberra station, said Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew on Friday (June 27). The Land Transport Authority (LTA) will announce details later.

"I mentioned last year that LTA was studying the possibility of building an additional station between Yishun and Sembawang on the North-South Line. The more observant amongst you would have noticed a missing station number, NS (12), between these two stations. I am pleased to announce today that the feasibility study has been completed and we will be constructing the station, which will be known as Canberra station," Mr Lui said.

Khaw wants integrated health care complex to be connected with homes and nature. 

 

A new integrated health-care complex coming up in Woodlands promises to be like no hospital seen so far in Singapore. It includes an acute care hospital, community hospital and nursing home, will open in phases from 2022. 

When completed, the development will provide some 1,800 beds.

The complex will be built on a 7.7ha site along Woodlands Avenue 12 and Woodlands Drive 17, opposite Christ Church Secondary. It will be within walking distance to the future Woodlands South MRT Station.

There are no architect's designs or artist's impressions, but National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan's brief for the planners is to break new ground, make it different and connect it with homes and nature.

Altogether, there will be up to 1,800 beds in a general hospital, community hospital and nursing home due to open in phases from 2022, he said at a community event yesterday at Woodlands Civic Centre.

Last week, a commercial site in Woodlands attracted strong interest from developers, including some of the biggest names in the business. Yesterday, the Government awarded the tender to a consortium of Far East Civil Engineering, Tannery Holdings and Sekisui House, which had beaten seven other bids with its offer of nearly S$634 million. That translates to about S$907 per square foot per plot ratio (psfppr), for the first commercial site put up for tender since the announcement last November of Woodlands Regional Centre as Singapore’s Northern Gateway.

Its untapped potential is marvelous.

According OrangeTee, in line with the decentralisation strategy announced in Concept Plan 1991 to guard against congestion and over-development in the Central Business District and Marina Bay areas, Woodlands Regional Centre has become the fourth regional centre after Tampines Regional Centre in 1992 and Jurong Lake District and Paya Lebar Central in 2008.

Having had its maiden collective sales attempt stymied by the introduction of the total debt servicing ratio (TDSR) framework, Eunosville is back on the market for a second run. Accompanying it is Jervois Gardens, which was also launched for collective sale by tender yesterday.

The 330-unit Eunosville, located opposite Eunos MRT Station, is being put on the market for a minimum price of $688 million, similar to its initial collective sale attempt in June.

Greater Southern Waterfront, Holland V & Kampong Bugis are set for transformation

In a nutshell, the URA Draft Master Plan 2013 revealed that a new waterfront city is to be developed on Singapore’s southern coastline, an eco-friendly district will take shape next to Marina Bay, and both Holland Village and Kampong Bugis will be extended to yield close to 5,000 homes. In total, enough land has been earmarked to yield 500,000 homes, mostly public housing.

A tract of waterfront land spanning 1,000 ha, referred to as the Greater Southern Waterfront in the Draft Master Plan 2013 of the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), will be the next major growth area in the city.

Specifically, the 21.5 ha of development area in Marina South will yield about 9,000 private homes. Development will start after 2017/2018, when the Thomson Line is nearer completion.

Residents and visitors to the area will be able to shop in an 800m long underground mall between the two Thomson Line stations serving the area, namely Marina South and Gardens by the Bay. This frees up the ground-level space above the mall for a pedestrian walkway.

Will be developed in next 10-15 years.

According to a release by the Urban Redevelopment Authority, envisioned as Singapore’s northern gateway, the Woodlands Regional Centre was identified under the Land Use Plan as part of the decentralisation strategy to bring jobs closer to homes and add more business hubs outside the city centre. 

When fully developed, this regional centre will offer approximately 100,000 new jobs.

SINGAPORE - Residents in Woodlands will be the first in Singapore to experience the community feel of an integrated building with public facilities such as housing, health care and hawker centres all under one roof.

Planned, built and run by multiple government agencies - a first - this vertical "urban kampung", as National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan calls it, will bring together the young and old to live, eat and play together.

THE mature industrial area in Singapore's north has a well-established record for attracting buyers, given its proximity to the Causeway and Johor Baru.

Now the area is set to become an even more compelling business proposition, with a big boost in economic activity and development on the cards.

Plans are under way to develop a major commercial belt stretching from Woodlands to Punggol, known as the North Coast Innovation Corridor.

SINGAPORE: The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded four contracts worth S$1.04 billion for three stations and the adjacent tunnels on the Thomson MRT Line, and for the line's Mandai Depot.

In a statement on Friday, LTA says the works will start in the first quarter of 2014.

 ABOUT THE WOODLANDS REGIONAL CENTRE

Woodlands Regional Centre is one of the four regional centres identified under the Land Use Plan to create business hubs outside the city centre. This not only provides more locational choices for businesses but also brings jobs and amenities closer to homes, thus reducing the need to travel towards the city centre.

The two regional centres at Tampines Regional Centre and Jurong Lake District are growing well. Tampines Regional Centre was the first to be developed in the 1990s and is today a bustling centre in the east. Jurong Lake District is also growing steadily since the plans were unveiled in the Master Plan 2008.

SINGAPORE: Sales of new private homes have been brisk in the past year for projects in neighbourhoods like Pasir Ris and Punggol.
 
And some industry players said the Hillview area, located in the western part of Singapore, could be the next up-and-coming spot with more projects lined up.
 
The Hillier - a mixed development project at Hillview Avenue - is one of several new offerings in the area.
 
It has seen strong take-up, with 96 per cent of the total number of units sold.

SINGAPORE: Jobs will be brought nearer to the homes to help ease the congestion in the city centre, with two new commercial belts.

The government, which outlined these developments in its Land Use Plan, will also make it easier for people to use public transport. And, it hopes to see 75 per cent of all journeys made by public transport by 2030, compared with the current 60 per cent.

ABUNDANT nature reserves and water catchment areas have made the Upper Thomson district better known for greenery than as a residential hot spot, but that is set to change.

The area's transformation is coming on two fronts - major condominium projects that are taking shape and the upcoming Upper Thomson MRT station.

This station, located near Thomson Plaza, is part of the $18 billion Thomson Line, which is slated for completion in 2019.
