New platform, track for Tanah Merah MRT station in 2024

The new platform will cater to trains heading to Pasir Ris, which leaves the two middle tracks dedicated for trains travelling to and from Changi Airport.

SINGAPORE: By 2024, commuters can expect faster MRT travel to the Singapore Expo and Changi Airport. That's because a new platform will be added to the Tanah Merah MRT station, giving it three platforms and four tracks in total. Enhancement works will start in 2016. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) revealed these plans in a media briefing on Monday (Aug 25).

Lui unveils plan for S$6.2b train-bus depot

Singapore is set to see more dramatic changes in its rail landscape with new developments in the pipeline. The world's first integrated bus and train depot will be built - estimated to cost a whopping S$6.2 billion - in an attempt to improve Singapore's increasingly congested transport system in the midst of land scarcity challenges.

The integrated depot, announced by Minister for Transport Lui Tuck Yew yesterday, will comprise a bus depot as well as a three-storey rail depot, with each storey housing trains serving a different line. The existing Changi depot will be relocated as the new depot will be able to house around 220 trains and park 550 buses when completed.

The New Thomson East Coast (TEL) MRT Line To Be Completed in 2024

On August 15, 2014, the LTA announced that the southern end of the Thomson Line which serves the North South corridor will be extended eastwords to form the new TEL MRT line. In Singapore, the proximity to an MRT station helps to sell properties. The 13km East coast stretch will bring MRT travel to areas not currently served by the MRT system and increased connectivity to the East will be brought about by a 2.2km, 2-station extension of the Downtown Line (DTL) to join DTL To TEL. MRT network eroding prime offices' premium

Rental discounts decreasing over time

[SINGAPORE] With the expansion of the MRT network here improving accessibility across the island, the rental differences between prime office and decentralised office space are expected to continue narrowing.

As at the fourth quarter last year, gross average office rents in Tampines were 46 per cent lower than those in Raffles Place; those with office space in Jurong East enjoyed 25-35 per cent discount off Raffles Place rents.

Office spaces closer to town had smaller differences: Novena rents were 15 per cent less than Raffles Place ones, based on DTZ's figures; Buona Vista and HarbourFront were 18 per cent and 21 per cent lower respectively.
